Kerela Style Fish Masala

Ingredients:

Fish: 200 gm (I used Tuna fish)
Ginger garlic paste: 2 tsp.
Lemon juice: 1 tsp.
Salt to taste
Red chilli powder: 1/2 tsp.
Turmeric powder: 1/2 tsp.
Black pepper powder: 1/2 tsp.
Fennel seeds: 1/2 tsp.
Cooking oil: 2 tsp.
Dessicated coconut: 1 tsp.
Onion (chopped): 1
Ginger (grated): 1 inch
Garlic (grated): 3 cloves
Green chilli (chopped): 1
Curry leaves: a few
Tomato (chopped): 1
Coriander powder: 1/2 tsp.

  1. Cut the fish into small pieces and keep aside. Make a mix of ginger garlic paste, lemon juice, salt, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, fennel seeds and black pepper powder. Marinate the fish in this mix for 10 minutes.
  2. Heat oil and add the fish pieces without marinade to the oil and fry for about 2 minutes on each side, drain from oil and keep aside.
  3. Heat the same pan and add coconut. Add onion after 10 seconds and fry until the onions are transparent.
  4. Add ginger and garlic and mix well. Add curry leaves and green chilli. Mix well and let cook for 2 minutes.
  5. Add the tomato and mix well. Add salt and coriander powder and mix well, cook until the tomatoes become soft and mushy.
  6. Add the curry leaves and the remaining marinade. Mix well and let cook for 3-4 minutes. Add the fish pieces and mix. Cook for another minute and turn off the flame. Serve hot !
